Behaviors of Ticks

The different tick species will behave differently throughout the year. Most commonly ticks will wait in overgrown grasses, bushes or plants until another animal walks by and then jump onto the blood bearing animal or human. The tick will then bite into the animal or humans skin and begin to feed on their blood for up to a few days. During the first 24 hours or so, the tick will also transfer any diseases that it is infected with onto their prey which is how disease is spread so easily.

Ticks are typically found anywhere there is good ground cover, shade, and where they can be off of the ground. Most commonly they are found in the overgrown area of a yard, especially around the perimeter. They wait on taller plants and grasses until they can fall onto a prey such as a small animal, human or one of your pets.
